Getting Your EXTRA

School is back. My kids have transitioned fairly well this year into the school routine. They are both in new buildings and I have been pleasantly surprised at their resilience and flexibility. What a difference a year makes!

My goal as I map out my days is to make sure I am finding time for my “extra” or things that help me refill my “self care account”. This whole concept is based on our newest podcast episode conversation with Rosey Celommi about figuring out what your “extra” is and how to get more of it each day to prevent burnout and stress. Rosey spoke with Bethann and I about her mission to help educators care for themselves to keep the momentum they start the year with last past October. Everything Rosey shared applies to parents too! Have a listen to figure out what brings you joy and how to nurture it, plus how to integrate a mindfulness and gratitude practice into your day and create joy in the chaos of our busy lives.

After talking with Rosey, I felt very motivated to start using my Calm app again and do my meditation practice a few times a week, though ideally every day. Then life happened (surprising, right?!) and I got busy…I did my meditation practice a few times, but it fell to the wayside. When I recently had to listen to our conversation for edits, I felt very motivated ro start again and get my extra!
My plan now for this fall is to get organized (including using a snazzy new planner that I am assuming will change my life and through osmosis help me get it together) and get my extra in. I still am running most mornings while chatting with Bethann , which is a longtime routine extra. Movement, time outside, connecting with friends–these are my extras. I also really want to use my Calm app daily. It's only 9-12 minutes usually! I need to book that time in said life changing planner and just do it. It does help me so much in other parts of my day.

I’d love to hear what your extra is and how you can fill your self care account each day. Email me at cdziembowski@dtownctc.org or message me on instagram!
