August aka Month of Mixed Messages
Time in August feels strange. Summer isn’t over yet but fall is looming and you can’t escape it. It’s 90 degrees outside and I’m ordering school supplies and learning teacher names. I’m taking my kids to go swimming in the morning, and stopping at the outlets in the afternoon to get a winter coat for a deal at an early Labor Day sale.
It’s funny because I’m really trying to work on “single-tasking” and staying present with my kids as this is the thing gurus say to do (and it does lead to a calmer mind), and I’ve written blog posts about practicing being present. But how can one stay present with Halloween candy already at the entrance of stores right after July 4th, paired with paying a late fee for not signing up for soccer by August 1? Instagram memes say “just be here”... and my email says “you better get those markers and glue sticks before they sell out”. August, could you slow your roll with the mixed messages, please?!
So all this to say: my brain is feeling pretty distracted. Honestly, this is all I have to say this month. No big reflections or deep thoughts…. Unless we want to count this. Maybe you can relate to being in this in-between-mini-season I find myself in and just remember to take care of yourself too. I’m still doing my (almost daily) meditation practice. Still trying to focus on doing one thing at a time. Still wish summer was a little bit longer and the external world would stay a bit more present too. I hope you are enjoying these last weeks of summer and I would love to hear how your August is going! Email me at cdziembowski@dtownctc.org or you can find me on Instagram or Facebook.
